Sephora: nontoxic makeup review

Published by

In the days of big makeup influencers and preteen/teen girls flocking to Sephora to be trendy; I think it is an important time to talk about what is in our makeup products. Unless you otherwise seek out the cleaner, nontoxic options it is likely that the product you pick up from the Sephora shelf is full of toxins.

I have reviewed all the makeup available at Sephora and have the cleanest ones linked below for you.

So what exactly do I mean by toxins? Ingredients that will disrupt our hormones, impact our body systems, or are known or suspected of causing cancer.

I like to categorize low tox options as “bad,” “better,” and “best. Most of the options in this blog are “better” options. Of course you can find squeaky clean makeup from other brands but sometimes they aren’t as widely available or they are just more expensive and out of budget. Also going back to the trendy teens – I would prefer any of these options because they don’t contain the major endocrine disrupting and carcinogenic chemicals like other options. So wherever you are in your journey, I hope this guide is helpful!

All products containing these ingredients were excluded:

1 BHA and BHT 2 Parabens 3 PEGs 4 Phenoxyethanol 5 Fragrance 6 Phthalates 7 Formaldehyde releasers 8 Talc 9 SLS and SLES 10 Triclosan 11 Carbon black 12 Mineral oil 13 Petrolatum and paraffin 14 Polysorbates and ethoxylated ingredients 15 Flavors

Quick mention of the Clean at Sephora Seal. They do have a seal on clean beauty products that requires products to be free of parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, retinol palmitate, and more which is a great starting point. I would consider anything with this seal a “better option.” However, they do still allow some products with BHT, phenoxyethanol, lake dyes, flavors, etc. so some of them were excluded from my list.
